Acts 2:24 (Contemporary English Version)
“God raised him to life and set him free from the pain of death. Death could not hold
him.”
Historical background
These words come from Peter’s speech on the day of Pentecost. Not long before, Jesus had been crucified, died, and was buried. For His followers, everything seemed lost. Fear and confusion shaped their lives.
Then something powerful happens: Jesus rises from the dead. Peter speaks about this with conviction. He explains that this was not by chance, but part of God’s plan. The resurrection shows that death does not have the final word. For the first Christians, this was a turning point—from fear to courage, from uncertainty to hope.
What does this mean for you and me?
Maybe your life sometimes feels like something has “ended.” A dream that didn’t come true, a relationship that broke, a season of loss. It can feel final.
But this text says something powerful: what looks like an ending to us is not the end for God. He can bring new life where we see no way forward.
You see this in the church. People who have gone through difficult times share how they found new hope. Not because everything became easy, but because they learned to trust God again.
You also see it in society. Someone who rises again after a major setback. Someone who starts over despite everything. These stories reflect restoration and new life.
An encouraging insight
The resurrection of Jesus means there is always hope. Not shallow, but deep and real. Death could not hold Him—and that means nothing is stronger than God.
Maybe you are in a situation right now where you see no way out. Still, this message says: God is greater. He can bring something new even out of darkness.
Final thought
“Death could not hold him.” – Acts 2:24 (CEV)
This is the heart of it: what holds you does not hold Him. Where you feel stuck, God sees a way. Trust that He can bring life, even where you least expect it.
