Knowing God deeply

Hosea 6:3 (Contemporary English Version)
“Let’s do our best to know the Lord. His coming is as certain as the sunrise. He will
refresh us like rain, like spring showers that water the earth.” –

Historical background
The prophet Hosea lived in a time when the people of Israël talked about God, but their hearts were far from Him. Religion was present, but real devotion was missing. People still went to the temple and offered sacrifices, yet their daily lives told a different story. It was a period marked by moral confusion, political instability, and spiritual emptiness. Through Hosea, God made something very clear: He wasn’t looking for outward religion, but for a genuine relationship.

What does it mean to ‘know God’?
When you read this, it feels like God is saying, “Don’t stay on the surface.” Knowing Him is not just about understanding facts, but about experiencing Him in your everyday life. Like any friendship, it grows through time, honesty, and presence.

You can see this in church life. Some people attend for years, but something shifts when they begin to seek God personally—through prayer, reflection, and openness. In society, you see a similar pattern: many people search for meaning but often settle for shallow answers.

Examples from daily life
Think about a friendship that only became real when you opened up. Or a relationship that deepened because you invested time and attention. That’s how it works with God too. He doesn’t want to remain distant—He wants to be close.

Maybe you recognize a quiet longing inside you, a sense that there must be more. This verse is an invitation: take a step, seek Him, be honest.

Why this gives hope
What stands out is the promise: God will come. Just as the sun rises every morning, He is faithful to reveal Himself. He compares His presence to rain that brings life. Where things feel dry or empty, He can bring renewal.

Final thought
“Let’s do our best to know the Lord…” – Hosea 6:3

Maybe this is your moment to move beyond knowing about God and begin to truly know Him. Simply, honestly, as you are. He is closer than you think.
