A Witness to the Light

John 1:7 (KJV)
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

Encouragement for Today

Sometimes it feels dark inside you, or dark around you. Problems can pile up, the news can drain your strength, and conversations can carry tension or distrust. This verse brings hope: John did not come to make himself important, but to point to the Light. That means God gives light, and He uses people to make that light visible.

You may think, “Who am I to make a difference?” But being a witness is often small and close to home. It is not about perfect words. It is about honesty, warmth, and faithfulness. A simple sentence like, “I’m praying for you,” or “You’re not alone,” can shift someone’s whole day. Sometimes your calm, your patience, or your listening ear is exactly what someone needs to dare to believe again that hope is real.

In the church:

  • Someone who welcomes newcomers and helps them feel truly seen
  • A prayer group that keeps praying for a family in crisis
  • A visitor who makes time for grief and healing

In society:

  • A coworker who stops gossip and chooses respect
  • A neighbor who brings a meal in times of sickness or loss
  • A student who stands up for someone being left out

These are small lights that point to the greater Light.

Question to Pause and Reflect

Where might God be asking you this week to show something of His Light: at home, at school, at work, or in your neighborhood?

Closing Thought

John 1:7 reminds you: your life can be a signpost. Not toward yourself, but toward Christ, the Light that never goes out.

Take This With You

  • You do not have to be “big” to be a witness.
  • Love in action makes faith visible.
  • Pray simply: “Lord, make me a light today.”
