The Spirit Who Remains

John 1:32 (CEV)
John said, “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven like a dove, and it stayed on him.”

What Does This Text Say?
In John 1:32, John the Baptist tells what he himself has seen. He sees God’s Spirit
coming down on Jesus and remaining with Him. That is important. It shows that
Jesus is not only a special person, but that God Himself is visibly present in Him.
This is an encouraging message. God’s Spirit does not just come for a moment and
then leave again. He stays. That means: faithful, close, and reliable. Where Jesus is,
God is permanently present.
This text gives hope. Even today, God is not far away or only involved for a short time.
He wants to be close and to remain, especially in everyday life.

In the church, you see this when people experience that God does not let them go.
Someone goes through a difficult period, yet still finds peace or strength to continue.
Not because everything immediately gets better, but because God remains present.

You see this in society as well. Think of people who faithfully stay by someone’s side: a
caregiver, a friend, a colleague. Their presence shows something of who God is: not
fleeting, but steady and near.

A Question to Reflect On
• Where have I experienced God’s closeness, especially over a longer period of time?
• Do I believe that God also wants to remain with me, no matter what happens?

Closing Thought
John shows us this: God’s Spirit remains with Jesus. That means God is reliable and
does not let go of what He begins.

Take This With You
• God is near and remains present
• You are not on your own
• Faithfulness and perseverance belong to God’s love

To Close
John 1:32 invites us to trust. Those who believe that God’s Spirit remains may live with
hope and peace. That makes this message worth sharing.
