A Voice That Shows the Way

John 1:23 (CEV)
John answered, “I am the one shouting in the desert, ‘Make the way ready for the
Lord!’”

What Does This Text Say?
In John 1:23, John the Baptist says something special about himself. He does not call
himself a leader or an important prophet, but a voice. A voice that wakes people up
and prepares them for what is coming. His task is not to be in the center of attention,
but to prepare the way for the Lord.
This is encouraging. John shows that you do not need a big role to be important.
Sometimes your task is simple, but still necessary. God uses ordinary people to help
others meet Him. It is not about who you are, but about what you pass on.
This text teaches us that we too can be a voice: through what we say, but especially
through how we live.

In the church, you see this in people who help others get to know God better. Think of
someone who offers a listening ear, leads a Bible group, or is simply faithfully present.
They prepare the way through care and love.

This also happens in society. A colleague who is honest and fair. A parent who teaches
children to live with respect. Or someone who stands up for people who have no voice.
In this way, ordinary people become guides for others.

A Question to Reflect On
• What message does my life communicate?
• For whom can I be a voice that brings hope and direction?

Closing Thought
John the Baptist shows that a voice can be enough. God uses people who are willing
to speak and to live out their faith.

Take This With You
• You do not have to be great to make a difference
• Your words and actions can give direction
• God uses your voice, exactly where you are

To Close
John 1:23 invites us to live with awareness. By making room for God in your own life,
you also help others on their way. That makes this message worth sharing.
