God’s creative power and the goodness of all life

Genesis 1:24–25 (Contemporary English Version)
God said, “I command the earth to produce all kinds of living creatures: domestic and
wild animals, and all reptiles.” And that's what happened. God made every one of
them. Then he looked at what he had done, and it was good.

These words show that God speaks with authority. What He wills happens. Life on earth is not an accident, but comes from His purpose. And what He makes, He calls good.

Historical Background

Genesis was written in a time when the nations around Israel believed in many gods. People thought the gods fought each other and that nature came from chaos.

The Bible gives a different picture:
• There is one Creator.
• He brings order.
• He creates with purpose.

Animals were important in daily life. They provided food, clothing, and help in farming. Some nations even worshiped animals as sacred. Genesis makes it clear: animals are not gods, but creatures made by God.

This gave Israel a unique view of the world. Everything that lives comes from God’s hand and has value.

Examples from the Church and Society

In the church:
• Gratitude for creation.
• Prayer for farmers and food supply.
• Attention to caring for nature and the environment.

In society:
• Respectful treatment of animals.
• Thoughtful choices about food and consumption.
• Efforts to protect natural areas.

If God says it is good, that also calls for responsibility from people.

Final Reflection

God saw that it was good.
That gives hope.

Even when we see brokenness in the world, we may remember that God’s original intention was good. His creation still carries His signature.

Take This With You

  • God speaks and it happens.
  • Life is wanted and purposeful.
  • Creation has value.
  • You may care for what God calls good.

In Closing

Genesis 1:24–25 reminds us that we live in a world God intended.
That brings gratitude.
That brings responsibility.
And it invites us to treat all living things with respect.
