When your faith wavers

2 Timothy 2:11–13 - Contemporary English Version
‘If we are not faithful, he will still be faithful. Christ cannot deny who he is.’

When You Have No Answer

A friend asks how your faith is doing. You say, “Fine,” but you are actually having doubts. You have prayed and noticed no change. At church, others seem sure of what they believe, while you wonder where God is. Perhaps you would rather keep those questions to yourself. What if people think your faith is not strong enough?

Comfort in a Difficult Time

The second letter to Timothy comes from the time of the first Christian churches. Timothy was given the task of sharing the good news about Jesus, even when he faced opposition. The words in this passage were meant to help him keep going: those who belong to Christ can look forward to life with him.

There is a warning, too. The passage takes the decision to turn away from Christ seriously. So “He will still be faithful” does not mean that the path you choose makes no difference. It means Jesus remains true to what He promises and says. If you are struggling but still long to know Him, you do not have to hide that.

An honest conversation can help. Perhaps a friend will listen without immediately offering a solution. Or someone at church will read the Bible with you and give your difficult questions room. In a world where you often feel you must appear strong, you can say, “I’m not sure right now.”

Final Thought

You do not have to pretend your faith is stronger than it is. Even if you do not know Jesus yet, you can explore who He is. You can tell Him honestly what you do not understand. What question would you dare to ask today?

A Prayer

“Jesus, You know my doubts and my longing. Help me search honestly and listen to Your words. Give me the courage to share my questions, and people who will walk alongside me. Amen.”
