Sometimes you carry sorrow that nobody sees. You lose someone you love, receive a difficult diagnosis, or feel exhausted by everyday worries. Perhaps you wonder whether suffering will ever end. At such moments, the Bible offers a remarkable vision of a future in which sorrow and death will no longer have the final word.
Revelation 7:15b–17 – Contemporary English Version (CEV)
And so they stand before the throne of God and worship Him in His temple day and night. The One who sits on the throne will spread His tent over them. They will never hunger or thirst again, and they won't be troubled by the sun or any scorching heat. “The Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd. He will lead them to streams of life-giving water, and God will wipe all tears from their eyes.”
Historical Background – Hope for People Under Pressure
John wrote Revelation to seven Christian churches in Asia Minor, in what is now Turkey. They lived under Roman rule, where remaining faithful to Jesus could lead to ridicule, social exclusion, and persecution.
John describes a countless multitude from different nations standing before God's throne. They have endured great suffering, but they have not been forgotten.
Remarkably, Jesus is described as both the Lamb and the Shepherd. As the Lamb, He gave His life for our sins. As the Shepherd, He leads His people into eternal life.
The Shepherd Sees Your Sorrow
Perhaps you sit in church every Sunday and sing along, while nobody knows how much sorrow you carry. Or you care for a sick spouse every day and feel your strength gradually fading.
God does not promise that believers will never experience difficulties. But He gives us the hope of a future in which hunger, thirst, pain, and sorrow will be gone.
The image of God wiping away tears reveals His personal closeness. He knows the suffering of His children and does not abandon them to their sorrow.
Final Thought – New Hope Begins with Jesus
Perhaps you wonder what happens after this life and whether God's promises can have meaning for you too.
Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose from the dead. Through Him, we can receive forgiveness and be reconciled to God.
You do not have to hide your guilt, worries, or sorrow. Jesus invites you to come to Him with everything that is on your heart.
What would it mean to you if you entrusted your life to Jesus today and learned to look forward to the day when God will wipe away every tear?
A Prayer
Lord Jesus, You know my sorrow, worries, and uncertainties. Thank You that You are the Good Shepherd who never forgets His people. Forgive my sins and renew my heart. Help me trust in Your promises, even when life is difficult. Give me peace, strengthen my faith, and teach me to look forward to the day when all tears will disappear. Amen.
