Jude 1:20-21, Contemporary English Version
“Dear friends, keep building on the foundation of your most holy faith, as the Holy Spirit
helps you to pray. Keep in step with God's love.”
A letter written in a time of confusion
The letter of Jude is short, but it is written with strong conviction. Jude lived during a time when much confusion was entering the early church. Some people were twisting the message of faith and using freedom as an excuse to live without responsibility. As a result, many believers became uncertain and discouraged.
That is why Jude writes not only with warning, but also with encouragement. He speaks to ordinary believers who wanted to remain faithful to God in a difficult environment. His words show that faith must be cared for, just as a fire must be kept burning.
We can still recognize this today. People hear many different opinions about faith, truth, and how to live well. Sometimes people grow tired of arguments or become disappointed by things happening inside churches. That is why this encouragement remains important: stay close to God’s love.
Faith does not grow automatically
Jude says that people must build their lives on their faith. This means faith needs attention. Just as a plant needs water in order to grow, a person needs prayer, Scripture, and fellowship.
In churches, you often see that people remain strong when they stay connected to others. A conversation, praying together, or simply listening can give someone renewed courage. But faith becomes weaker when a person completely isolates themselves.
In society, it is also easy to see how quickly people are pulled into fear, anger, or shallow living. That is why it is important to make time for silence, prayer, and reflection on God’s truth.
Remaining in God’s love
Jude does not say that people must earn God’s love. He says they must remain in it. God’s love is like a safe place where a person may live.
This does not mean problems disappear. But it does mean that even in uncertainty, you may know that God is holding you. Especially when a person feels weak, God desires to remain near.
Final thought
“Dear friends, keep building on the foundation of your most holy faith, as the Holy Spirit helps you to pray. Keep in step with God's love.” — Jude 1:20-21, Contemporary English Version
A person does not have to be perfect to remain close to God. Step by step, you may learn to trust, pray, and live from His love. There, peace, direction, and renewed strength begin to grow for each new day.
