"But Christ has shown me that what I once thought was valuable is worthless. Nothing is as wonderful as knowing Christ Jesus my Lord! I have given up everything else and count it all as garbage. All I want is Christ and to know that I belong to him. I could not make myself acceptable to God by obeying the Law of Moses. God accepts me because of my faith in Christ."
More than success and possessions
Everyone is looking for something that gives life meaning and security. Perhaps you find satisfaction in your work, your family, your education, or the appreciation of others. These are all good things, but they can change in an instant. The Bible invites you to consider an important question: What is the foundation of your life? What will remain if everything you once depended on is taken away?
A message that still gives hope today
The apostle Paul wrote these words from prison to the Christians in Philippi, an important Roman city. In the past, he trusted in his knowledge, his good deeds, and his reputation. But when he came to know Jesus Christ, he discovered that nothing is more valuable than a life with Him. Paul understood that God's love cannot be earned. Forgiveness and new life are gifts freely given to everyone who trusts in Christ. That message still brings peace today to people who constantly feel they have to prove themselves.
A new way of seeing people
You see this in the church when people accept one another with love instead of judging each other by their achievements. You also see it in everyday life when someone who has lost a job or their health discovers that their true worth does not depend on success, but on the love of God. That gives fresh courage to keep moving forward.
