You Don’t Have to Earn God’s Love

Hebrews 10:14, Contemporary English Version
‘By His one sacrifice He has forever set free from sin the people He brings to God.’

When Saying Sorry Doesn’t Feel Like Enough

After an argument, you have apologised. The other person has accepted your apology, but you keep replaying the conversation in your mind. Should you have said more? Done more? Perhaps you wonder whether God sees you in the same way: as someone who can never do enough to make up for their mistakes.

One Sacrifice That Need Not Be Repeated

The letter to the Hebrews was addressed to early Christians who knew Jewish worship. Sacrifices were offered again and again. The writer points to what makes Jesus different: He gave himself once. According to the letter, His sacrifice opens the way to God for good for those who belong to Him.

Does this mean they never make mistakes again? No. These words are about what Jesus has done for their relationship with God. Forgiveness gives you room to admit honestly what went wrong and learn to live differently. You do not have to erase your guilt through endless efforts of your own.

I think of someone who walks into a church again after a long time away, afraid of how people will react, and discovers there is a place for them. Or a neighbour who finally dares to speak about something they are ashamed of while a friend stays and listens. That conversation does not undo the past. But it can make a new beginning possible.

Final Thought

Perhaps you are tired of trying to prove yourself. Or you think your story is too complicated to bring to Jesus. You can tell Him that very story. You do not have to make it sound better than it is. What burden would you like to lay down before Him?

A Prayer

“Jesus, You know my mistakes and my shame. Help me understand what You have done for me. Teach me to receive your forgiveness, and give me the courage to live honestly from here on. Amen.”
