You Don’t Have to Carry It Alone

2 Corinthians 12:9–10 Contemporary English Version

But He replied, “My gift of undeserved grace is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So if Christ keeps giving me his power, I will gladly brag about how weak I am. Yes, I am glad to be weak or insulted or mistreated or to have troubles and sufferings, if it is for Christ. Because when I am weak, I am strong.

You go to work, care for others, and perhaps tell people at church that you’re doing fine. Only when you get home do you realize how tired you are. How much longer can you keep going? You don’t have to keep that question to yourself.

Historical background

Paul wrote to the Christians in Corinth about something that continued to trouble him. He called it a thorn in his flesh. We don’t know exactly what it was. Three times he asked the Lord to take it away. The trouble remained, but Christ promised Paul his grace. Paul discovered that even in his weakness, he could rely on Christ.

Strength for today

Perhaps you are praying for healing, peace, or a way forward, yet tomorrow your situation is still the same. That can hurt. You don’t have to hide your disappointment. Tell Jesus what is weighing on you, and dare to ask someone close to you for help. A friend who listens, a neighbor who brings groceries, or someone at church who prays with you can make a difference today.

Final thought

Jesus welcomes you as you are right now. Tell him what feels heavy. You don’t have to show strength you don’t have; you can ask him to carry you.

A prayer

Lord Jesus, You see how tired I sometimes feel. Help me to be honest, to accept help, and to trust in Your grace. Stay close to me, even when my situation has not yet changed. Amen.
