What Makes You Truly Rich?

Your pay comes in, and you work out what will be left after the bills. Then an unexpected expense appears. A little later, you see someone’s holiday photos and think, If I had more, I could finally relax. But how much is enough?

1 Timothy 6:6–7  Contemporary English Version

And religion does make your life rich, by making you content with what you have. We didn't bring anything into this world, and we won't take anything with us when we leave.

Historical background

Timothy was helping a young church. The letter to him warns about people who used faith to benefit themselves. These words offer a different view: life with God and contentment are a kind of wealth that does not depend on possessions. What we gather may be useful, but we cannot take it with us when our lives end.

Peace amid your worries

That is no easy answer when you are struggling to pay the rent. Your worries are real. You can ask for help, make plans, and work toward a better future. Being content does not mean staying silent about what you lack.

Still, money can make a promise it cannot keep: that you will never feel uncertain again. Think of someone who has little but still shares a meal. Or someone at church who makes time for you without asking for anything in return. There you can see another kind of wealth.

Jesus invites you to bring both your hopes and your worries to him. Tell him what you need. You do not have to pretend to feel content when you do not.

Final thought

Your worth is not measured by your bank balance. What you own may change, but today you can come to know Jesus and discover what it means to trust him.

A prayer

Lord Jesus, You see my worries about money and tomorrow. Help me ask for support when I need it. Teach me to be thankful, to care for others, and to put my trust in You. Amen.
