When You Long for Rest
You can be busy all day and still feel, by evening, that something is missing. You care for your family, do your work, and try to stay strong. But who sees you when you are tired? Psalm 84 gives words to that longing for a place where you are welcome.
Psalm 84:10–12 — Contemporary English Version
10 “One day in your temple is better than a thousand anywhere else.”
One day in your temple
is better than a thousand
anywhere else.
I would rather serve
in your house,
than live in the homes
of the wicked.
11 Our Lord and our God,
you are like the sun
and also like a shield.
You treat us with kindness
and with honor,
never denying any good thing
to those who live right.
12 Lord God All-Powerful,
you bless everyone
who trusts you.
Historical Background
Psalm 84 is a song by the descendants of Korah, who were connected with worship at the temple. The writer longs for God’s house, where people gathered to pray. To him, even a humble place close to God was more precious than a position of honor elsewhere.
More Than a Chance to Catch Your Breath
Perhaps you look for rest in a day off or a good conversation. Perhaps you sit in church and still wonder: am I welcome here, with my past and my questions?
Jesus invites you to come to Him. He gave His life for our sins and rose from the dead. That is why you can ask Him for forgiveness and begin again. You do not need to prove that you have lived a perfect life. Simply tell Him what is on your mind. Ask someone you trust to pray with you.
A Final Thought
You do not have to earn a place with God. Jesus opens the door. Will you take a step toward Him today?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I long for rest and a new beginning. Forgive me and teach me to trust You. Amen.
