Your Past Does Not Have to Have the Last Word

When You Want to Begin Again

Sometimes one question stays with you: can I still turn back? Perhaps you have hurt someone or done something you regret. Life goes on around you, but inside you know something needs to change. You just do not know where to begin.

Joel 2:13 — Contemporary English Version

Don't rip your clothes to show your sorrow. Instead, turn back to me with broken hearts. I am merciful, kind, and caring. I don't easily lose my temper, and I don't like to punish.

Historical Background

The prophet Joel spoke to a people who had been badly affected by a plague of locusts. Crops were lost, and the future felt uncertain. Joel called the people to return to God. In those days, people sometimes tore their clothes to show their grief. Joel asked for more than a visible gesture: he asked for an honest heart.

The Way Back Is Open

You can say “sorry” at work but keep avoiding the colleague you hurt. You can sing along in church while feeling afraid to tell God what is really going on. You do not have to pretend with Him. He already knows you.

Perhaps you wonder whether God would still welcome you. Listen to Joel’s words about His patience and love. Jesus makes that invitation personal. He gave His life for our sins and rose from the dead. That is why you can ask Him for forgiveness and begin again. You do not have to excuse your past to bring it to Him.

Take a Step Today

Tell Jesus honestly what you have done and what you want to change. Have you hurt someone? Ask Him to help you make things right where you can. If you need support, find someone who will listen and pray with you.

A Final Thought

A new beginning is possible. Jesus invites you to return to Him today.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, I do not want to hide anything from You. Forgive me, change my heart, and help me begin again. Amen.
