Your Worries Do Not Have to Have the Last Word

When Tomorrow Is on Your Mind

Sometimes you start counting the costs before you even get out of bed. Is there enough money for groceries? What will happen with your job, your health, or your family? Perhaps you tell others you are fine while lying awake at night. Jesus speaks to people who know what such worries feel like.

Luke 12:30–32 — Contemporary English Version

30 Only people who don't know God are always worrying about such things. Your Father knows what you need. 31 But put God's work first, and these things will be yours as well. 32 My little group of disciples, don't be afraid! Your Father wants to give you the kingdom.

Historical Background

Shortly before this, Jesus told a story about a rich man who stored up more and more possessions. Yet his wealth could not keep him alive. Jesus then turned to His disciples. They were a small group who also had to think about their daily needs. He pointed them to the Father’s care.

Bring Your Worries to Jesus

Perhaps you know that tension. You want to manage your money wisely, but you also wonder how you will get through next month. Even at church, you can sing along while an unpaid bill waits at home.

Jesus does not ask you to pretend that the bill is not there. You can seek help and share your worries with someone. He also invites you to entrust your life to God. Seeking His kingdom begins by turning to Him.

Jesus gave His life for our sins and rose from the dead. That is why you can come to Him with both your fears and your mistakes. Ask Him for forgiveness, for help today, and for the trust you need to take the next step.

A Final Thought

You may not know what tomorrow will bring. Today, you can bring your worries to Jesus.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You see what keeps me awake. Forgive me, help me where I need help, and teach me to trust You. Amen.
