Jesus Will Never Write You Off

Sometimes your past continues to haunt you. People remind you of mistakes you have made, even though you are trying to move forward. Perhaps you feel ashamed, have damaged relationships, or think that nobody trusts you anymore. But what if there is Someone who does not reject you, but is actually looking for you?

Luke 19:10 – Contemporary English Version (CEV)

"The Son of Man came to look for and to save people who are lost.”

Historical Background – Jesus Meets a Rejected Man

Jesus was traveling through Jericho, a prosperous trading city where taxes were collected for the Roman government. A wealthy chief tax collector named Zacheüs lived there.

Many Jews despised tax collectors because they coöperated with the Roman authorities. They were also known for dishonest practices and enriching themselves at the expense of others.

Zacchaeüs wanted to see Jesus, but he was short. So he climbed a tree. To his surprise, Jesus stopped, spoke to him personally, and decided to stay at his house.

The people around them complained. Why would Jesus visit someone who was known as a sinner?

But this encounter changed Zacchaeüs. He decided to give half of his possessions to the poor and repay anyone he had cheated four times the amount.

God's Grace Gives People a New Beginning

Perhaps you recognize something of yourself in Zacchaeüs. You have made wrong choices, hurt someone, or carry guilt that is difficult to talk about.

Even within the church, people sometimes feel excluded. In our society, people are often judged by their past for many years.

Jesus looks beyond a person's reputation. He does not approve of wrongdoing, but seeks people out to transform their lives.

Zacchaeüs did not change in order to earn Jesus' attention. His new way of life was the result of the grace he had received.

Final Thought – Jesus Is Looking for You Too!

Perhaps you think you must first put your life in order before you can come to God.

But Jesus came precisely to save lost people. He carried our sins on the cross and rose from the dead. Through Him, we can receive forgiveness and be reconciled to God.

You do not have to hide your past. Jesus invites you to come to Him honestly.

What would change if you entrusted your guilt and sorrow to Jesus today and asked Him to renew your life?

A Prayer

Lord Jesus, You know my past, my mistakes, and everything I regret. Thank You for seeking lost people and not rejecting them. Forgive my sins and renew my heart. Help me turn away from wrong paths, make things right where I have caused harm, and treat others with love. Teach me to follow Your ways every day. Amen.
