You Make Plans, But God Knows The Way

Sometimes you think you know exactly what your future will look like. You make plans for your work, your family, or a dream you have cherished for years. But suddenly, everything changes. You lose your job, become ill, or an important decision turns out differently than expected. Perhaps you wonder why your plans have failed. The Bible shows us that our abilities are limited, but God's wisdom reaches far beyond our understanding.

Proverbs 16:9 – Contemporary English Version (CEV)

We make our own plans, but the LORD decides where we will go.

Historical Background – Living by God's Wisdom

The book of Proverbs belongs to the wisdom literature of ancient Israël. Many proverbs are associated with King Solomon, who was known for his wisdom.

Parents and teachers used these lessons to teach young people how to live wisely, honestly, and responsible. Wisdom meant more than gaining knowledge. It began with reverence for the LORD.

Proverbs 16:9 describes someone who makes careful plans but ultimately cannot control everything. God's guidance reaches beyond human expectations.

This does not mean that our choices are unimportant. In fact, the Bible encourages us to take responsibility, think carefully, and trust in God's wisdom.

When Life Takes an Unexpected Turn

Perhaps you have been applying for jobs for months without success. Or you are praying for a broken relationship to be restored, but reconciliation has not yet come.

Churches also make plans for evangelism, helping people in need, and church growth. Sometimes doors open, but at other times expectations must be adjusted.

This does not automatically mean that God causes every setback or that you have made the wrong choice.

Trusting God means continuing to pray, seeking wise advice, and taking responsibility, even when you cannot see what the future holds.

Final Thought – Who Will You Trust with Your Future?

Perhaps you are trying to keep everything under your own control. But no matter how carefully you plan, life remains uncertain.

Jesus Christ shows us just how far God's love reaches. He came to reconcile us to God, carried our sins on the cross, and rose from the dead. Through Him, we can receive forgiveness and make a new beginning.

You do not need to have all the answers before coming to Him.

What would change if you shared your plans, disappointments, and worries with Jesus today and asked Him to guide you?

A Prayer

Lord Jesus, You know my plans, desires, and disappointments. Sometimes I do not understand why things turn out differently than expected. Forgive my sins and renew my heart. Give me wisdom when making important decisions, patience when doors remain closed, and trust when I cannot see what lies ahead. Teach me to seek Your guidance every day and to live close to You. Amen.
