Choosing to trust

Matthew 26:39 – Contemporary English Version
“My Father, if it is possible, don't make Me suffer by drinking from this cup. But do what You want, and not what I want.’”

When your road becomes difficult

Sometimes something comes your way that you would rather avoid: illness, loss, uncertainty, or a difficult decision. In Gethsemane, Jesus shows that having faith does not mean you have to hide your feelings.

A prayer in the night

Gethsemane was a garden outside Jerusalem. Jesus knew that betrayal, humiliation, and crucifixion awaited Him. The “cup” pointed to the suffering He would endure. He did not hide His fear and sorrow. Jesus expressed His deepest desire and then placed His life in the hands of His Father.

You do not have to pretend to be stronger

You, too, may bring everything to God. Someone who is ill may pray for healing and also say, “Hold on to me.” A family facing financial difficulties can ask the church for help and learn to manage money wisely. A young person who is being excluded needs someone who will listen, pray, and remain by their side.

Surrender does not mean that sorrow disappears. It means that you do not have to carry it alone. Jesus knows fear, loneliness, and pain. Therefore, He understands what you are going through.

Final thought

Perhaps you are carrying a cup that feels too heavy. Tell God honestly what you fear and desire. Trust does not begin with words, but with an open heart: “Father, I do not understand this road, but will You hold me and guide me?”
