Sometimes you carry worries that nobody sees. During the day, you try to stay strong, but in the evening, your thoughts return. You worry about your health, your family, or an uncertain future. Perhaps you lie awake at night, longing for peace that lasts longer than a single quiet moment. It is precisely for people living with fear and uncertainty that Jesus has a wonderful promise.
John 14:27 – Contemporary English Version (CEV)
I give you peace, the kind of peace only I can give. It isn't like the peace this world can give. So don't be worried or afraid.
Historical Background – Peace Before the Cross
Jesus spoke these words during His final conversations with the disciples, shortly before He was arrested and crucified.
His followers were sad and uncertain. They had left their familiar lives behind to follow Him. Now Jesus was telling them that He would be leaving them.
It was precisely at that moment that He promised them His peace.
In the Bible, peace means more than the absence of problems. The Hebrew word shalomrefers to wholeness, restoration, and a right relationship with God.
Jesus did not promise an easy life without sorrow or struggle. He spoke of a peace that comes from being connected to Him.
Through His death and resurrection, He would open the way to reconciliation with God.
Peace That Does Not Depend on Circumstances
Perhaps you try to find security in good health, financial stability, or strong relationships. These are valuable things, but they can change unexpectedly.
Even within churches, tensions, disappointments, and conflicts sometimes arise. Believers, too, can be afraid of the future.
Jesus' peace is therefore more than a pleasant feeling. It rests on His faithfulness and on what He has done for us.
He carried our sins on the cross and rose from the dead. Whoever trusts in Him can receive forgiveness and live in peace with God.
This does not mean that all fear disappears immediately. But you do not have to carry your worries alone.
Final Thought – Let Jesus Bring Peace to Your Heart
Perhaps you have been trying to keep everything under control for a long time, but your heart remains troubled.
Jesus invites you to come to Him with your guilt, sorrow, and uncertainty. You do not have to earn His love.
Would you be willing to entrust your life to Jesus today and ask Him to fill your heart with the peace that this world cannot give?
A Prayer
Lord Jesus, You know my worries, my fears, and the unrest in my heart. Sometimes I try to solve everything on my own. Forgive my sins and renew my life. Thank You that through Your death and resurrection, You have made peace with God possible. Teach me to trust in You when circumstances are uncertain. Give me peace, wisdom, and courage to live close to You every day. Amen.
